Counselor's CornerUGA Gear Up April 2021 Newsletter Greetings! As members of the University of Georgia’s Middle School Outreach Team, we understand that a good transition from middle school to high school is critical in a student's success in the selective college admissions process. As part of our effort to increase the college readiness of Georgia's students, our team provides this newsletter to you so you can help educate parents and students about the college admissions process. High School Tips. There are some things that your rising 9th graders should consider prior to beginning high school. This link to our admissions blog contains guidelines for 8th-12th grade, noting what a student should consider for our process at each grade level. Acceptance Facts. There are many rumors, myths, and urban legends about who gets admitted to UGA. We admit students from many backgrounds from all over the state, country, and world. It is always our goal to enroll students from diverse backgrounds in order to build a great first-year class. Check out this link to learn more about this year’s admitted student class. Involvement. Every year selective colleges become more competitive. A few years ago, UGA moved to more of a whole student review process since more academically competitive students were applying than we had space to admit. While academics are still the most important aspect of our review, involvement inside and outside the classroom in clubs, organizations, and sports (to name a few) play a crucial role in our application review process. You can learn more about our review process on our blog, here. Go Dawgs!
