Dr. Booker's 2020-2021 Welcome Back Letter 28 July 2020 Jaguar Parents and Guardians, It is with great excitement and anticipation that we begin the 2020-2021 school year. I am excited you are part of our amazing learning community and value your positive energy, feedback, suggestions and expectations for teaching and learning. We are looking forward to partnering with all stakeholders as we begin the academic year in our newly designed virtual learning space. Our devoted teachers and staff have been preparing for your scholar throughout the summer, while taking time to relax, reflect, and recharge. Stephenson Middle School teachers are committed to the challenge of preparing our scholars in all settings, inclusive of virtual learning. Our teachers will continue providing engaging and robust learning experiences that prepare all scholars for success beyond the middle school. To make this possible, our teachers have engaged and will continue in a variety of professional development workshops and courses. This learning will enhance the instruction provided to scholars and address social emotional needs throughout the 2020-2021 school year. There are five core skills that will be taught within the regular classroom setting and explicitly during the ICare block (Intentional time spent innovatively addressing social emotional needs, providing remediation, participating in clubs, and ensuring opportunities for enrichment through advisement). We will focus on the following skills:
Please take the time to get to know our teachers and staff, especially in this virtual space. We will provide opportunities for school-wide, grade level, and special area parental support. Communication will be vital to the success of our scholars, so please commit to staying connected to the classroom. Great schools are a direct reflection of the parent and teacher/school connection. WE NEED YOU! We need you to ensure your scholar is ready and prepared to learn daily! Therefore, get ready “plug in” and partner with SMS!! As the principal of this amazing school, I am honored to have the opportunity to work with such outstanding students, staff, families and community members. It is a gift to be able to share my passion for education with all stakeholders. I am confident we will have a successful 2020-2021 school year as we continue our mission to provide a safe, nurturing environment that is conducive to learning and dedicated to producing students that are college and career ready.
