School Beautification Project: Paint bathrooms and outside trash cans, plant flowers in front of school and Memorial Garden. Students, parents and community members are welcome to join. Community NewsDeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources have joined forces to teach children about fishing. What's the old saying? "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." The Gateway to Fishing Program will return for the third year and this year's programs are scheduled for May 20 and Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. The sessions will be held at Chapel Hill Park, 3985 Lehigh Blvd. in Decatur at the fishing pond. It is free and will also include other wildlife and a Mobile Catch Center. The city of Decatur is scheduled to host a hiring event. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, at Legacy Park, 500 S. Columbia Drive in Decatur from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is encouraged. Two forms of identification and related credentials are requested. Interviews and background checks will be conducted. Available job openings include but are not limited to, police evidence custodians, equipment operators, sanitation workers, police officers, and E911 communications managers. The Friends of the Decatur Library is holding a used book sale on Saturday, May 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will take place on the ground floor of the library located at 215 Sycamore St. in the city of Decatur. Shoppers can browse fiction and mystery titles for all ages as well as a variety of non-fiction categories, including history, sports, health and cooking, all at reasonable prices. Masks are encouraged, and shoppers are asked to bring their own bags. Payment can be made with cash or checks. Media Center News
